The 2009 COMMODORE JUNIOR CLOSED CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP is a mini tournament played within the larger 2009 COMMODORE JUNIOR OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP and includes the results and tables of the Commodore 64 chess programs that were entered into the main tournament. This Tournament is interesting to see how these chess programs competed against each other.

Cyrus II continues to show it’s superior strength. “How about a nice game of Chess” Chess 7.5 by Larry Atkin also plays a nice second half of the tournament, only losing to Cyrus II, but winning all the rest of the games.

2009 Commodore Junior Open Guests Championship Final Standings - Cyrus II wins tournament !

Cyrus II easily wins the tournament remaining undefeated in 30 games. Larry Atkin’s Chess 7.5 also showed that it can play good chess. Chess 7.0 an earlier version finishes 3rd, 1/2 a point ahead of Martin P. Bryant’s Colossus 2.0. Grandmaster Chess which came out in 1982, making it one of the oldest programs in the tournament also played so really good chess and finished in a very respectable 5th place.
