VTECH - VIDEO TECHNOLOGY LIMITED was founded in 1976 by Allan Wong and Stephen Leung. In 1977 they had developed their first generation of Home TV Games. In 1978 they launched their first portable LED game based on a single-chip microprocessor. In 1979 VTech launched their first portable LCD game.  In 1982 they established their first overseas sales subsidiary in the United States.

It was 1983 when VTech became of interest to chess computer fans when they launched their portable LCD Chess Master game.

VTech has become the world’s largest manufacturer of cordless telephones, and the largest supplier of electronic learning products from infancy to preschool in the US and Western Europe. VTech also provides highly sought-after contract manufacturing services. VTech’s mission is to be the most cost effective designer and manufacturer of innovative, high quality consumer electronics products and to distribute them to markets worldwide in the most efficient manner.

With headquarters in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in China, VTech currently has operations in 11 countries and regions and approximately 37,000 employees, including around 1,500 R&D professionals in R&D centers in Canada, Hong Kong and China. This network allows VTech to stay abreast of the latest technology and market trends throughout the world, while maintaining a highly competitive cost structure.
