CXG COMPUTACHESS III finished equal third in the 2007/2008 - UNDER 1400 ELO CHESS COMPUTER CHAMPIONSHIP. The match for third place against EXCALIBUR CHESS STATION ended in an exciting 5 - 5 tie. Seventy-two machines were entered into this tournament. Finishing in third place was a fantastic performance! Especially, when you consider that COMPUTACHESS III was first made in 1985, thus making it twenty years older then the other three semi-finalists. A total of eight hundred and thirty eight games were played in this Tournament.
It is interesting to observe that twenty-four of the forty-six games played by COMPUTACHESS III, were against four Excalibur machines. CHESS STATION, NEW YORK TIMES, MODEL 932-ED2 and KINGMASTER II. COMPUTACHESS III scored an exact fifty percent against these opponents, with twelve points from a total of twenty-four available points. This does make you wonder about a possible connection between COMPUTACHESS III and certain EXCALIBUR machines.
