Briant, COLOSSUS CHESS 4.0 was published in 1985. The game look and feel remains the same as its predecessor COLOSSUS 2.0, but the chess engine is much improved and plays a lot stronger. There are plenty of configuration options in this game. COLOSSUS 4.0 is probably the strongest chess program ever published for the Commodore 64/128. Most chess players will find COLOSSUS CHESS 4.0 a tough and challenging opponent.

The PC direction keys can be used to play COLOSSUS CHESS 4.0. SHIFT + T = Level Mode, there are 6 Modes. Mode 2 = Time per move mode. Mode 1 = Tournament Mode. Holding down the SHIFT key and pressing the letter O, orientates the chess board. SHIFT plus letter N = New Game. Pressing SPACE BAR at any time takes you to the Analysis Screen.

You can find OPTIONS by pressing all the keys and making a note of the functions.  Most of the functions are hidden therefore also try to press all the keys while holding down the TAB (= RESTORE key on a Commodore 64/128) key, the CONTROL key or the SHIFT key.

The Spacious-Mind Active game results (shown above) are from games played with a Commodore 64 or 128. Playing COLOSSUS CHESS 4.0 with an Emulator should play exactly the same as using a Commodore 64 or 128.

The game example below originates from the C64 Open Championship and was played with a real Commodore 64 or 128 and original COLOSSUS CHESS 4.0 software, however the Emulator Software should play exactly as the original game.
